Friday night Stitch-A-Thon

I’ve decided to work on my Trick or Treat fairy tonight for the Friday night Stitch-a-Thon with the Let’s Stitch blog group. I’m also probably going to work some on my exchange piece for the Autumn Fair & Square exchange, but I won’t be able to post photos of it.

Here’s my before pic of my ToT fairy:

You can click on the image for an even larger view, if you like. She’s a little bit different from the original chart. I decided to rechart and stitch her face and arms 1-over-1 for a little finer detail.

The SAT run from 6pm until midnight local time. I’ll post another photo tomorrow to show how much progress I made. I’ll have to be really careful with my stitching during the first part of the SAT as I’ll be watching the presidential debate at the same time. I’ll have to be careful to make sure I don’t pull my stitches too tightly if I start getting annoyed by what I’m hearing. lol

WIP Update

I was putting together a list of my WIPs for an intro post on the new Let’s Stitch blog. I figured since I went to all of the work to put it together that I would share it here as well. )

I actually have 19 WIP’s right now, but really hope to reduce that number by three or four by year’s end. Here’s a list of my current projects along with the date on which they were started. I’ve also linked them to my most current WIP photo when available. Linking them has made me realize I need to update my WIP photos. LOL Anyway, the pieces I’ve marked with ** are my current focus pieces.

The Let’s Stitch group will be doing a Stitch-A-Thon tonight from 6pm – midnight local time. I need to decide what I want to work on tonight and post my before picture. Everyone participating will be posting their before and after pictures for the Stitch-A-Thon so we can see each other’s progress. It should be fun. )

Triathlon Dream Lives!

As many of you know, I’ve been plagued with a nagging shoulder injury that had pretty much side-lined me from doing any training for my triathlon since I wasn’t able to swim on doctor’s orders. Well, there’s been a slight change in plans that will now let me race after all! Terri, with whom I was planning to do the tri, asked if I would be interested in doing it as a relay. So, now the plan is that Terri will do the swim, Darla will ride the bike, and I will do the run. Well, I’ll actually be wogging (walk/jog combo), but it’ll be in the run portion of the race. ) Regardless, I’m so excited and can’t wait for Oct. 19th to get here!!!!!

I also made a decision that since I’m not sure what the future holds for me as far as triathlons go, that I would get back to focusing on my wogging. As a result, my friend Tracy and I committed to do a big race together next year and have already registered. )

Yep, that’s right. I’ve registered for the inaugural Rock ‘n Roll Seattle Half Marathon! It’s actually taking place on the weekend before Tracy’s birthday, so that will make it an even more fun trip. )

Hopefully I’ll have better results than the last time I registered for a half mary. P As some of you may remember, I was registered for the Long Beach Half Marathon back in October 2006. Sadly, not long after registering and starting to train was when my back issues got so bad. By the time the event actually rolled around, I was on disability and was just a few months after from my spinal fusion surgery. This time, I hope to cross the finish line with a huge smile on my face. 8)

Until next time …

Whom Will You Hire?

I initially thought about apologizing for posting more political content on my blog, but then I thought again about just how important a Presidential election is and decided against it. This is my blog and I definitely think we should all be involved in the political process. We should never take for granted that we live in a democracy and that, even more than just having the right to vote, we have the privilege to do so!

I got this via email earlier today and thought it was definitely worth sharing. It reminds us that this campaign cycle (which I admit is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long) is really nothing more than a job interview. It is about choosing whom we want to fill the jobs of President & Vice President of the United States.

America is facing historic debt, multiple war fronts, stumbling/crumbling health care, a weakened dollar, skyrocketing Federal spending, collapses on Wall Street, unemployment at a 5 year high, all-time high prison populations, 1 in 11 homeowners are in either some form of foreclosure or behind on their mortgage, etc., etc., etc.

So, with that in mind, let’s look at the educational background of our options for this very important 4-8 year job assignment:

Obama:
- Occidental College – Two years.
- Columbia University – B.A. political science with a specialization in international relations.
- Harvard – Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude

Biden:
- University of Delaware – B.A. in history and B.A. in political science.
- Syracuse University College of Law – Juris Doctor (J.D.)

VS.

McCain:
- United States Naval Academy – Class rank was 894 of 899

Palin:
- Hawaii Pacific University – 1 semester
- North Idaho College – 2 semesters – general study
- University of Idaho – 2 semesters – journalism
- Matanuska-Susitna College – 1 semester
- University of Idaho – 3 semesters – B.A. in journalism

Now, which team are you going to hire with your vote?

ETA: Just to make sure no one misunderstands the Vote Smart logo, it’s not meant to imply that anyone is dumb or that you should vote for the “smartest” candidate. It’s meant as a reminder to people to really look at the candidates and where they stand on the issues in order to make an educated decision regarding your vote.

Great Repurposing Idea!

Ok, let me start off by saying I am NOT a fan of Martha Stewart. I’ve never had aspirations of being the “perfect” homemaker or hostess, so I never quite got into the whole Martha concept. That having been said, I saw a link to this video on the blog of my friend Tracy and thought it was an awesome idea!

The video basically shows how to take your old t-shirts and convert them into shopping bags that can be used to carry groceries and such. After doing so many 5k races over the years, I have tons of t-shirts that I never wear that could easily be converted into shopping bags. It looks very easy to do and requires minimal sewing. I love it! Here’s a pic of the finished product:

Green Tee Bag

Note: If you decide to watch the video, skip ahead until about 5:30 into it. Well, that is unless you actually WANT to hear a whole segment about gourds. P
