One Woman Learning to Live Her Best Life

Where There is Life

I thought I would take a minute to post a bit of a stitching update as well. I decided in honor of breast cancer awareness month that I would work on “Where There is Hope” from Little House Needleworks. This was a collaboration kit between Diane Williams of LHN, Sharon Crescent of Crescent Colors, and Lois Mouriski of Elegant Stitch. All of the kit proceeds are being donated to breast cancer education and awareness programs.

Here is my progress thus far (click image for a larger view):

Here is what the piece will look like when finished. This particular piece (done by Lois) was stitched over 1, but I’m stitching mine over 2.

Where There is Life

If you are interested in this kit, or any of the other breast cancer fund raisers offered by Lois, please check out her website. Lois is a survivor herself, so this cause is very near and dear to her heart.

Weekly Training Recap

Sorry I didn’t get to this Sunday as normal. I’ve got a friend visiting from out of town and I’ve not been on the computer as much.

Here’s the weekly recap for last week:

Day Planned Actual
Sunday Off
Monday 1 mile – 0:20 (3.0 mph) 1.3 miles
Tuesday 1 mile – 17 min. (3.5 mph) 1.0 mile
Wednesday 1.25 miles – 0:22 (3.4 mph) 1.3 miles

Saturday .75 mile – 0:15 (3.0 mph) None

By this table, I actually fell a bit short this week. I swapped my rest day from this past weekend from Sunday to Saturday. I walked a 5k on Sunday, but wanted to make sure I still got in a scheduled rest day as well. So, the extra mileage will show up on next week’s recap.

Weekly Training Schedule

Ok, as promised last week, it’s time to follow up with how I did this past week with my training schedule. In addition to the recap of the past week, I’ll alsoprovide the schedule for the upcoming week. The half marathon is now 38 weeks away.

I ended up missing a day this past week. I was sick for a couple of days and that prevented me from getting out as I would have liked. I walked a bit farther than was called for a couple of other days, so I still ended up exceeding my total miles for the week. So, overall, I feel good about what I did for this first week.

Here’s the weekly recap:

Day Planned Actual
Sunday Off Done! lol
Monday 1 mile in 17 mins (3.5 mph) 2.4 miles
Tuesday 1 mile in 18 mins (3.3 mph) 1.1 miles
Wednesday 1 mile in 17 mins (3.5 mph) Sick

Friday 1 mile in 17 mins (3.5 mph) 1 mile
Saturday 1.5 miles in 30 minutes (3.0 mph) 2 miles
Weekly total: 6.5 miles 8.5 miles

Here’s the schedule for this week:

Day Planned Actual
Sunday Off
Monday 1 mile – 0:20 (3.0 mph)
Tuesday 1 mile – 17 min. (3.5 mph)

Halloween Fairy Update

I won’t be working on my fairy today, so I thought I would post my latest update on her. I did work on her for about half the day yesterday at the all day stitch at my LNS. I spent the better part of an hour fighting with the Kreinik braid for the moon. It kept knotting and twisting and just wouldn’t seem to lay properly. I finally got so frustrated with it (after frogging it for the third time!), that I substituted and used two strands of a similar color (032) of Accentuate instead. As always, you can click the image for a larger view, if you like.

I hope everyone has/had a wonderful Sunday!! )

Broom Hilda’s Hat

I got my Broom Hilda’s Hat back from the finisher today. I *love* how it turned out. She did a fabulous job and I adore the fabric she used for the lining. Here are particulars about the piece as well as pictures of it before (post stitching) and after the finishing.

Designer: Margaret Bendig
Canvas: 18 mono
Fiber: Rainbow Gallery Mandarin Floss

I also picked up a couple of new charts for my stash when I was at the shop today. The first was on a complete no brainer for me. lol Since I’ve already stitched “B is for Bunny” by Sandy of The Sweetheart Tree, I just couldn’t resist picking up her latest “A Bevy of Bunnies”. )

A Bevy of Bunnies

The other chart is Quakers & Quilts from Rosewood Manor. I’m only planning to stitch the “Only Quaker” version of the chart and won’t be including the quilt squares.
