Wow, if only I can keep this kind of pace up for the duration of my challenge!
I finished another stitching project last night, so that means I’ve already checked off 2 of my 25 projects in the very first week of the challenge. At this rate, I’ll be able to buy stash again by August.
The really nice thing about finishing this second project is that it’s been one of my works in progress since 2006. It feels really good to be able to add it to the finished list. As I said when I started this challenge last week, in addition to cutting back on my stash spending, my seconding goal during all of this is to knock out some of my long-standing WIPs. Finishing this piece helps me toward meeting that goal as well.
Here is a photo of the finished piece followed by a close-up view which shows some of the intricate backstitching used in this design. I will also include the design & project details after the photos. As always, you can click on the images to see an even larger view, if desired.
Designer: Long Dog Samplers
Fabric: 25-count antique white Monaco
Fiber: Dragon’s Blood – Hand-dyed Fibers by Vikki Clayton
Stitched over-1 using 1 strand of Vikki’s premium silk for the full croses and 1 strand of her regular silk for backstitching
Completed: April 29, 2009
I didn’t think to put anything in the photo to give an idea of the scale of this piece. For those who might be interested, the piece is ~6¾” square with a stitch count of 175 x 175 stitches.
That’s it for now. Until next time …

Melissa, that is just stunning!!!! Great work!

Sweeeeeeeeeet. And very impressive over one.
It is just absolutely jaw-droppingly beautiful! I love the color you picked. And over 1 too! How do you do it?
I’d much rather stitch over on 40 count than do over 1 of any type. lol. Congratulations again!
