Today is the final call for Missy Ann’s 13 Days of Halloween giveaway. If you hurry, you can probably still enter!
I can’t believe another week has passed already! It seems like the closer we get to the end of the year, the more quickly time passes. Thankfully, I am managing to do pretty well with my holiday shopping. I’ve gotten about half of it done already. As per norm, I’m doing a lot of it online because I absolutely detest going to malls or shopping centers during the holiday shopping period.
I did my weekly weigh-in yesterday and had another successful week.
I was down 1.6 pounds (0.7 kg). This brings my total loss thus far up to 69 pounds gone (31.4 kg). I recently set a goal for myself to lose 20 pounds by the New Year. After this week’s loss, I’m down 7 pounds toward that goal with 13 more to go. It really feels good to be making meaningful progress again.
I’m down 10.4 pounds (4.7 kg) in the past 5 weeks!
My goal for this week is to step up my activity again. I stayed on top of my walking this past week, but definitely let other activities like strength training, doing my Wii workouts, etc. fall by the wayside. I want to get those going again this week.
In that effort, I rented a copy of the new Wii Fit Plus title to try it out today. There are definitely some fun new activities on it, along with some new updates on activities from the original Wii Fit as well. It will definitely be going on my wish list.
During my workout today, I tried out Rhythmic Kung Fu, the Obstacle Course, Perfect 10, and the Basic Run Plus. I played/worked out for about 45 minutes. I had a lot of fun and got in a really nice workout. Per my Bodybugg, I burned 407 calories during my workout!
I want to close this post by sending out good vibes to my friends Nicole, Donna, and Nick who are all doing a race together this weekend in Chicago. This will be Donna’s first 5k and I’m so proud of her! Good luck guys!!
Until next time …

Jeanie in Singapore received the Halloween squares I stitched for her as part of the Fair & Square exchange, so I can share a picture of them now. The design is by Prairie Schooler from their Boo to You chart.
I received my squares from Jeanie last week. She choose a couple of small motifs from San-Man Originals. She did a great job. I think the squares are adorable. Thanks, Jeanie!
I also have another little finish to share. It’s actually a partial finish of an ultimate larger piece. It’s from the Sea to Shining Sea silk thread pack series from Little House Needleworks. The whole piece is made up of five regional squares and a border pack. Since they are each packaged separately, I’m counting each thread pack as a finish. So, here’s the West Coast:
I have one last picture to share before I finish this up. I’m a week late posting it, but here is my monthly photo of my orts jar for the Totally Useless SAL:
I also want to add a note for those of you who are following my weight loss journey. I registered a new domain name for that blog. The new URL is http://www.melgetsfit.com. If you have the old URL bookmarked, it will still continue to work. Edit: Turns out I was wrong, the old URL apparently doesn’t work any longer. It will get you to the site, but the blog entries are no longer displayed. I just ask that if you link that blog elsewhere that you please use the new URL. Thanks!
Ok, that’s it for now. Until next time …

Until next time …

Just got home from the spin class from hell. I drove up to West Hollywood to participate in the Crunch-a-thon for Augie’s Quest (ALS research) taking place at Crunch Fitness locations all across the country today. While I was there, I decided to be brave and take the spin class taught by Bob Harper, one of the trainers on The Biggest Loser.
While I was there, I also saw Shay from season 8 of the show. She was also there for the class and is doing GREAT! She’s down 150 pounds so far.
We actually had a really nice conversation for about 15 minutes before the class started, and the she saw me again after the class and asked me how it went.
Weelllllllllllllllll, everything was going really well up until about 10 minutes before the end of the class. We really turned things up a couple of notches for the final push and I ended up having to get off the bike and puke … just a little bit.
After that though, I hopped right back on the bike and finished the class.
I got to speak with Bob for a couple of minutes after the class and he seemed downright giddy that he’d made me puke.
He and Shay actually high-fived one another, and he said he was going to have to tweet Jillian to let her know that he made someone puke.
Even though I puked, the class was still really good. I had a great time, got a help a great cause, and burned ~600 calories in the process. I’m think I’m going to take a nap now.
Before that though, I need to give you an update on my weigh-in this week. I was down another 2.0 pounds.
This means I’ve dropped 8.8 pounds in the past four weeks, and it brings my total loss up to 67.4 pounds.
Until next time …

It’s Tuesday, so that means it’s Biggest Loser night. I heard Danny (one of the contestants) say something tonight when he was on the scale that really resonated with me. So much so, that I actually had to pause the DVR because I teared up. He said:
“I’m ready to choose my direction instead of letting my direction choose me.”
The latter part of this statement could pretty much sum up the past 20 years of my life. I’ve let my weight, my circumstances, a failed marriage, and a host of other things control me rather than me controlling them.
In the past month, I think I’ve finally begun that journey to choose my own direction as well. Even more than when I was actually at my lowest weight five years ago because this time it’s all about doing it for myself. I’ve let go of most of the things hindering me and holding me back emotionally. At 45 years old, I’m finally figuring out who *I* really am rather than trying to always live up to the expectations others have of me.
Here’s to the next 45 years of living MY life on MY terms!
