I can’t believe it’s been six months already since I recommitted and got back on track with my Weight Watchers program. Have I been perfect every week during that six months? Uhmmm … no. In fact, I pretty much took the entire summer off. Thankfully, I didn’t throw all my good habits out the window and only gained about two pounds during that time.
As you may remember, my original plan was to get back on track from the summer on Sunday, October 16 following my nearly month-long vacation to New Zealand and Australia. Sadly, I had to cancel my trip at the last minute due to medical issues. Since I was going to be home anyway, I decided there was no better time than the present to get back on track so I returned to my meeting on Sunday, Sept. 18 instead. Things have been going really well so far. In fact, they’ve been going so well, this happened on Sunday.
Yep, that’s right! I earned my 5% award. Woo Hoo!! Even with taking three months off this summer, I’ve still managed to average nearly a pound per week of weight loss since recommitting in April. (People following the Weight Watchers plan can expect to lose 1-2 lbs/per wk.). While it may not be the fastest rate of weight loss out there, I’m still pleased with my results since I was really only making 100% effort three out of the past six months.
One thing I think has really been helping me is getting in a lot more movement. After experiencing the pulmonary embolism in July, I no longer have the luxury of being a coach potato. It’s imperative I’m up and moving regularly throughout my waking hours because doing so helps prevent the formation of more clots. Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been averaging between 8,000 to 10,000 steps per day on my Fitbit.
I recently discovered the Fitbit Adventure section in their Challenges and they’ve really been helping me stay motivated. I’ve also been participating in a Work Week Hustle challenge started by my good friend, Brooke. It’s definitely been helping as well because who doesn’t love a little healthy competition, right?! Between the NYC Adventures and Brooke’s challenge, I actually set a new personal best step count for a single day last week finishing the day at 15, 518 steps. Go me!
Thankfully, the temperatures are finally starting to cool down some here in southern California. I’ll finally be able to get outside more for my walking vs. doing it inside so much. Of course, that also means my favorite time of year is here, too. Bring on the pumpkin, winter squashes, and soups/chili! There was a really tasty looking recipe for a 0 SmartPoints Butternut Squash Soup in the Weekly flyer at the meeting this week. It’s definitely going on my “to do” recipe list.
Before closing, I just want to thank everyone for all the comments, emails, new followers, etc. following my announcement last week that I was selected to be one of the new Ambassadors for Weight Watchers. I was overwhelmed by all your kind words. I hope I can be a source of inspiration as we travel along this journey together. Thank you all again SO much!!!
Until next time …
