Pink Together (giveaway)

As you may have noticed, my blog has gone pink.  I’m leaving it this way throughout the month of October in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.   I lost my cousin Patricia to breast cancer almost 25 years ago, so it’s important to me each year to go pink for October.

Pink Together

This year I’ve paired up with the folks at General Mills and MyBlogSpark to spread the word about Pink Together.  Now in its fifth year of celebrating hope, PinkTogether.com allows visitors to connect with a unique online community of people who have been touched by breast cancer and share a passion for the cause.

The other aspect of the Pink Together campaign helping raise money for breast cancer research and awareness as well.  Through this campaign, General Mills will be donating over $2 million dollars to the cause.  The beneficiary of the campaign is the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  There are several quick and easy ways you can help as part of Pink Together.  How does it work?

  • Visit PinkTogether.com to share your personal story and messages of hope and read about others’ personal journeys. To encourage personal connections, General Mills will donate $1 to the Komen organization for each Message of Hope that is sent to someone who has shared their story on PinkTogether.com (up to $25,000) during October. This is in addition to a $2 million donation General Mills is making to the Komen organization.
  • This year, for the first time in its five-year history, at PinkTogether.com consumers can choose how $1 million of this donation will be shared between two important Komen programs: the Treatment and Assistance Program, which assists women in securing care they otherwise may not be able to afford, and Prevention Research, which helps unlock the keys to preventing breast cancer. Visit PinkTogether.com from September 19, 2011 through April 14, 2012 to make your choice. Results will be announced on Mother’s Day 2012 – Sunday, May 13.
  • Meet the 2011 Pink Together Survivor Ambassadors, and hear their amazing stories of courage and survival on PinkTogether.com and the Pink Together YouTube channel.
  • General Mills will also be turning the packaging of participating products pink in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.  Be sure to look for these specially marked packages at your favorite supermarket.

General Mills Packaging

The good folks at General Mills were kind enough to send me some goodies via MyBlogSpark for helping spread the word about the Pink Together program.  It included things like a variety of free cereal coupons, a Betty Crocker Living with Cancer cookbook (150+ recipes), a stainless steel water bottle, some pink rhinestone blinged out ear buds, etc.  The best part is they’re also offering up another goodie package to one of my blog readers.  Here’s a peek at everything that’s included:

Pink Together Prize Pack

I really want to take a moment to say how much I love the cookbook!  If you’ve ever had a loved one battle cancer, you probably know some of the side effects of treatment include nausea, mouth sores, diarrhea, and/or constipation.  Recipes that are especially good for helping counteract these symptoms are clearly marked.  Having something like this would’ve been great back when my dad was battling cancer because he struggled so horribly with mouth sores during his chemo.  Even if you there isn’t a cancer connection in your life, the recipes still sound really delicious and include full nutritional information.  Here’s a peek at the cover:

So, now it’s time to get down to the knitty gritty about the giveaway.  This giveaway will run from now through 11:59pm ET on Friday, October 7.  There is one mandatory entry for this giveaway which will require leaving a comment per the instructions below in the Rafflecopter box.  There are also a few more optional ways to enter which are also outlined below in the Rafflecopter box.

Subway Gift Card Winner

Congratulations goes out to Sunny who is the winner of my Subway $25 gift card giveaway! Sunny, please check your email for the details on getting your gift card.

Thanks!

Subway Oven Crisp Chicken (review & giveaway)

Anyone who knows me well could tell you in a heartbeat that my favorite fast food place is definitely Subway.  It’s quick, easy, the food is fresh, and it’s so easy to have a healthy meal there.  I try to limit myself to eating out no more than once or twice per week and Subway is usually where I go.

Well, if you guys have been watching any TV this week, you may have spotted ads for their latest sandwich creation on the Fresh Fit Menu .  It’s called the Oven Crisp Chicken and, as you may have deduced from the name, it’s baked in the oven and not fried!  Love that!  The folks at Subway were nice enough to send me a $25 gift card so I could go pick up one of the new sandwiches and give it a try.

Subway Oven Crisp Chicken

I have to say, I really enjoyed this sandwich!  The chicken was moist and the breaded coating was definitely reminiscent of a fried chicken cutlet.  According to the nutrition info on their website, the 6″ sandwich is 420 calories and only 6.7 grams of fat when ordered as they designed it.  What’s really cool though is that if you click their “Your Build” button, you can customize it to exactly how your sandwich was made to get the exact nutrition information.  Whether you follow Weight Watchers like me or count calories, having exact nutrition information makes it so much easier to stay on track.  With my customizations (used a different bread & added cheese), my sandwich came in at 480 calories and 12 PointsPlus value for my Weight Watchers plan.  It’s definitely higher in PointsPlus value than my normal Veggie Delite with cheese, but it was definitely a nice change of pace!

Snapz Apple Crisps

Since I knew my sandwich was higher in fat & calories than my usual choice, I decided to save some calories by foregoing my usual baked chips.  Instead, I grabbed a bag of the Snapz apple crisps for my combo instead.  They were also really tasty and only 45 calories!  I’ll definitely be getting these again, even when I do get the Veggie Delite.

If you want to try the Oven Crisp Chicken sandwich for yourself, you’ll have to hurry!  This is a limited edition sandwich and will only be around until September 30.  To make it easier for one of my readers to try it, Subway is offering up a $25 gift card to one of my readers, too!  Thanks Subway!  This giveaway will run through 11:59pm EDT on Wednesday, August 24.  The winner will be announced on Thursday, August 25.

I’m adding a new option with this giveaway to allow for multiple entries for tweeting about the giveaway.  You can get one additional entry for each day you tweet about the giveaway.  Please just be sure to send your tweet via the Rafflecopter panel below or otherwise it won’t be registered in the giveaway system for you to get the credit.

Fiber One Brownies (Review & Giveaway)

Are you a chocoholic?  I’ve never really considered myself one, but I do enjoy some chocolate from time to time.  So, when I was offered the opportunity from the folks at Fiber One and General Mills to sample their new Fiber One 90 Calories Brownies, I was pretty excited. I mean, seriously, a 90 calorie brownie? How could I not try that?!  Not only did they send the brownies, but they hooked me up with a cool gift pack with a bunch of other cool goodies, too.

Fiber One Goodies

The gift pack included a box each of the Chocolate Fudge and Chocolate Peanut Butter varieties.  While the Chocolate Fudge were good, the Chocolate Peanut Butter ones were definitely my favorite!  Then again, I may or may not have a slight obsession with peanut butter. )

They’re soft & moist and pretty tasty, too!  Most of the time I just eat them on their own as a snack, but sometimes I like to crumble one up as a topping for frozen yogurt.  YUM!

These little gems are available on store shelves now.  Have you tried them yet?  Would you like to try them?  Well, you’re in luck!  I get to offer one of my readers the same gift pack I received.  How cool is that?!

I’m trying out a new method for moderating my giveaways, so I hope this works OK! The contest ends at 9pm PDT on Wednesday, August 10. Here are the ways to enter:
